Security is a JOKE!!

So I missed my flight tonight! I was supposed to come home from Washington DC today but I didn't make it through security in time. I was flagged as a person of interest or something because of my Drivers License. It is one of the really old Utah ones and so it doesn't have all the new stuff on it. I was with Lisa for the security process and then we got to the front and they started asking all of these questions. I answered them and then he wrote something on my ticket and told me to come this way. My boarding pass and drivers license were then passed to three different people before I ended up in this "special" security line with aboout thirty people in front of me. At this point in time my flight was supposed to leave in 30 minutes and I knew I was cutting it close! I then called Lisa and told her I would just meet her at the gate cause I did't know how long I was going to be. I get to the front of that line finally and I am getting really nervous! I mean my flight will be leaving in 15 minutes. I was just thinking lets move this a little bit faster! The guy proceeds to tell another security man that I have a ticket that needs to go to the supervisor. I just thought oh crap. After another five minutes I was standing in this clear metal glass box thing while a lady was yelling at me to point out my stuff. This whole time they are saying "we are waiting for a female to be able to pat you down". I am really pushing my flight so I said I really don't care if a man pats me down. I won't be offended but he doesn't listen to me and finally it is my turn to come out of the box. They pat me down and proceed to pull everything out of my bag and anything I touched was then checked for the bomb residue or whatever. I then am running to the terminal trying to call Lisa to have them hold the plane. The call went straight to voicemail. At that point my heart dropped and I figured I missed my flight. I go running in there is no one anywhere and I see a plane backing up. I start walking to the attendant and he said, "You must be Emily Carrier"! I was like how did you know. He said well your sister was getting really worried and we tried holding the plane but the pilot wanted to leave. I then look at the clock they have and it was barely 5:00. Man I guess the pilot wanted to be on time. I had just barely missed the plane and I didn't know what to do. The guy was really shocked to hear I was in security the whole time but put me on a flight tomorrow. As I walked away I burst into tears. I was so frustrated and I felt so helpless. I was standing there watching the time go by while I couldn't do anything. I knew Lisa was probably freaking out and at this moment still doens't know I am fine. She could be thinking I am lost in the airport somewhere like on the movie "The Terminal". I called my sister but she was in a meeting so I called my brother-in-law who was at school. He could tell I was upset and called everyone to get my back to there house what a sweetheart. I just decided to wait for my sister at the airport. When she came she said David's mother had called worried about me and so did David. I am glad he was there to help. Well now I have written about the complete stress I was put in but on the bright side I now have an extra day with my sister and brother-in-law. I guess the moral of the story is get a new license and be really early to security. I have never had a problem before but at least I know the government is taking measures to make sure I was safe, even though I was very stressed at the moment.

Stay tuned until next time... Pictures of the DC trip!

First off - I didn't know you had a blog!!! I am so excited! Secondly, I am totally sorry about missing your flight! That totally bites! I totally laughed at loud when you told the guy that you didn't mind if a guy patted you down! You are hilarious! Hopefully security doesn't pull the same stunt tomorrow! Good luck!
